Background

The site at 162 City Road is currently occupied by Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Moorfields) and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO).

Plans to relocate the hospital have been in place for a number of years. Moorfields, IoO and Moorfields Eye Charity have been working together on plans to develop a new, integrated, purpose-built centre,

Their services will relocate to a new eye care, research and education centre on part of the St Pancras Hospital site in Camden. The new centre will harness the expertise of the partners under one roof and enable them to deliver the highest-quality eye care, research and education.

Derwent London’s role

Derwent London was selected to bring forward development plans for 162 City Road.

The site has been allocated by the London Borough of Islington (LBI) for commercial use. Derwent are working closely with the London Borough of Islington to ensure that the redevelopment proposals will complement the Council’s ambitions for the area and contribute to wider socio-economic benefits for local residents and businesses.

To ensure there is no loss of research, education or clinical services, redevelopment of the existing site will only commence once the new centre in Camden is operational.
